Won't they run out of airplanes if they don't do the return legs to Berlin?

They don't need airplanes. They need passengers. That is the reason Air Berlin failed.

Wrong.
AB had loads of passengers.
But they did not have sustainable yields combined with too high internaland external expenses (e.g. very high leasing rates for TUIfly aircraft with long term contracts they couldn´t get out from)

Not really.
Because they didn´t wait until getting caught in a trap.
They already possess an Austrian AOC since fairly recently.
