There used to be a time that the price you paid for a flight was the published cost. Those were indeed the days. With hidden fees on each airline, that ticket price is just the beginning, so it's good to know the fees in advance when comparing airline prices. Check out US Airways fee promotion. Book a flight and try to select your seat. You will find all seats are take except the "premium" seats for a fee with a message that your seat will be assigned at the airport if you don't buy one for $49 dollars or whatever.

The idea is that if you don't pick one of their premium seats you will be seated in row 23 between two fat ladies who marinated in lilac perfume. The smart passenger says bs, does not make a selection and ends up in the premium seats with people that got conned to contribute to the airline.
