There has been a Bessie Coleman Blvd at Tampa (TPA) for years. It's right alongside the large US Postal Service sorting facility.

Amazing what dream and will can achieve!

It's a pretty fascinating story, if I'm reading the Chicago Trib story correctly: that she had to go to France to learn to fly! And her (putative) line, “In the air there is no prejudice." Wow. Powerful now, amazing then

I've been flying for 25 years, and I'm delighted to hear the growing variety of voices on the radio.

Flying is a beautiful privilege, and making it more universally available only strengthens everyone's access to the skies.

There's always been a variety.... you just haven't been listening.
BruceSchimmel
srobek, perhaps i didn t listen as carefully as I should. So, yes, I d agree there are likely many unheard stories of unacknowledged pioneers. history isn t fixed, i m glad to say.

ok... let me expand. If you have had your radios turned on while in the air at all for the past 25 years - you have been able to hear quite the variety.
BruceSchimmel
Let me expand by directing those interested to a factual and vetted article in wikipedia on women in aviation. The percentage has remained constantly low for decades : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_aviation

ok - using the most dynamic reference point in the world does not lend any credibility to your point. The fact however - is this... there are more female pilots now - both in quantity and percentage than at any other point in history. Being a pilot is a choice - not an equity requirement. There's also a lot more to variety than just male and female.

This is not news. It's been named this for this reason for decades.

A very fitting place for this, seems 99% of airport workers at O'Hare are black.

that's an incredibly racist thing to say

It’s the truth and truth is not racist unless some racist person like yourself tries to make it racist.
