It is sad but it is even worse for all the innocent people killed by Putin.

This wasn’t a news story. It was a YouTube video speculating that the aircraft was “probably” destroyed.

HEY! HEY NOW! Let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story!

Aircraft confirmed safe but seems to be in the hands of Russians now

Do you have a link to that confirmed information?? Or source.

Oh okay thanks.

that's 3rdhand info, unfortunately. hopefully some proof comes soon.
djames225
djames225 2
That is not third hand proof. Dmytro Antonov (no relation either) is chief pilot of the AN225 as well as many other Antonov birds.
If anyone should know the fate of his craft, it would be him!
srobak
srobak 1
right, but that's not who posted the story.
djames225
djames225 1
It's a re-tweet of Dmytro's tweet, hence not 3rd hand info. It is, as they say, showing to be "direct from the horse's mouth"
srobak
srobak 0
it's a post of a retweet of a tweet that is _supposedly_ that of the pilot, yet is not blue-checked, and I am sure there are no fake accounts in twatter universe. That - by definition - is 3rd-hand info.

Oh - and then there's today's report from an actual official of the country, with accompanying imagery. That image is indeed of the northern-most hangar, the largest hangar and is the home of the 225. This is very easy to identify between the image vs. Google Earth or Google maps. You can also make out the distinct shape of a wing to the left, as well as the remnants of 3 nacelles on that side.

Sad to say - but she appears to be gone.

Putin a Liar??? Was told by a 'stable genius' that Putin was 'savvy' and a 'genius' for getting a good deal on land, believe the 'stable genius' said: “He’s taken over a country for $2 worth of sanctions,” “taking over a country — really a vast, vast location, a great piece of land with a lot of people — and just walking right in.”
gskarad
It's truly amazing that "stable genius'" followers have gone from being the party of Reagan to supporting Putin's invasion.

nobody is supporting Putin's invasion.

You might want to re-think that statement.

nope. nobody is supporting it - at least not in this country.

i recall seeing that aircraft (or a very similar one) coming in to iah a while back..it was huge!!

It's the only on in the world. If it had 6 engines save a split tail then this was it. If it has 4 engines save a t tail then it was a c-5 gaudy. If no t tail then it was an an-124

The world's largest aircraft - the Antonov An-225 - has been destroyed in the Russian advance, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says.

I did not see anywhere in that tweet that it was destroyed..I saw that foreign affairs Minister Kuleba said "Russia may have destroyed"

pretty evident here. That is the 225's hangar - you can clearly compare it on google earth or google maps.

oh sorry...it does show what a pathological liar Putin is. Military only?
I am praying that all the members of Antonov are safe and ok, and I wonder how many Antonov aircraft were damaged or destroyed..hopefully not their AN22

The confirmation of the An-225 on Friday said the plane was intact however in the last 12 hours new satelite photos show parts of the plane and the hanger that the plane was is in. Is indeed on fire and destroyed. May this plane live in are hearts and are minds. Such a sad tragedy for a one of a kind An-225. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FMmG3qrXIAQVcry?format=png&name=small

Wrong hanger, william. The 225 resides in a much larger hanger that covers the whole craft not just part of it, and is partially enclosed on the backsde. That to me looks like a 124 in a hanger, as Antonov does have a number of them.
Or worse news would be, it is their restored AN22 that was in that hanger.

I stand partially corrected and you are correct in 1 aspect. reports coming in from Antonov people through social media say it is gone..destroyed in the second attack on Hostomel. (Gostomel/Antonov International) "Sad to say - but she appears to be gone."
However that hangar shown is no longer the largest, and is apparently where 82009 was, an AN124..it too was in for maintenance but was totally destroyed. I just want to hear if AN22 was also damaged since it also uses that hangar.
As long as the main building can remain standing, there is hope the second 225 version will remain mostly intact, and they can use it to rebuild, as they stated.

Looking closer still - you can see the split tail in the image. pixelated as hell when looking that close - but pretty unmistakable.

supposedly for C maintenance check

Because it had just flown many many missions and was in modified A/B check. It had just come off a modded C/D check months ago, but due to cargo lifts, it is checked more often.

Build Back Better with Biden. That sure didn't age well. We should have never given up our AF base and embassy in Afghanistan. The politics of appeasement by Neville Biden will haunt us for decades. Support Ukraine or watch Putin march back to Berlin.

Mr. Ed can't be getting any sleep after seeing the oil depot in flames. He could probably beat Putin to death with his bare hands for that one.
