Wow! There's an aircraft you don't often see. Great history, thank you for sharing all that.

If you love the Commando (asI do!), go to the Glenn Curtiss in beautiful Hammondsport, NY (off I-86) west of Binghamton, near Bath, NY. You can’t miss it; there’s a beautiful Commando right out front by the road!! Terrific museum!!!

I saw one at an airshow at Peachtree Dekalb Airport in Atlanta. It's a lot bigger than I thought. I spoke with one of the pilots and they said it was not easy to maintain.

I actually have had a ride on one of these. In 1959 I flew from Paris to Copenhagen on a commercial conversion operated by Fred Olson Airlines. I’d been on DC-3s, so it was interesting. Noticeably roomier as I recall.

When I was growing up in the 50's I would see them at Love Field in Dallas bringing in parts for the Arlington GM factory from time to time.

It could stand repatriation to home territory...

During the '80s and '90s The Southern California chapter of the CAF had a C46 they restored based @ the Camarillo airport. Here's the URL if you're interested in the story.
