N8444H — - I had just come off N8444H Convair 440 Metropolitan (327A) of North Central Airlines "NC763" at Aberdeen, South Dakota, completing my leg number twelve on this airframe in two days, it was a good time to get off and stretch my legs as I had to travel two more to Bismark and finally end up at Minot. N28341 Douglas DC-3 Dakota (3278) was gracing the small ramp. My heart goes where the wild goose goes, well "Herman" anyways!

Thank you for sharing! Your picture brings back fond memories of my job in aviation. Station agent at DTW, back in 1968.

Thanks Gents. I started my big trip in DTW. Was a truly great summer for a 23 year old Scot!!

Neil, thanks for the great pic. Brought back memories of my Aunt Mary Ogle, who got her wings as a stew in 1952 with North Central. Spent many hours in DC-3's and the Convair 340 and 580. When Republic Airlines bought North Central she was the top stew both at North Central and the much larger Republic. When North West Airlines bought Republic she was still flying but slipped down to 23 for most hours. North Central at the end of their existence gave Aunt Mary a trophy that said "Convair Queen." She was based out of Bloomington, Mn her entire career. I'm sure if you flew North Central back in the day you probably flew with Mary. Thanks again for your photo. 5 stars.

Never could fault North Central Stews, I usually sat in the back with them and they plied me with bouillon, 7up, nuts, left over small sandwiches . . . on my numerous flights on my VisitUSA ticket.
