I don't think Joe Kittinger broke the sound barrier. Felix Baumgartner is going for several records, highest altitude freefall and breaking the sound barrier are two of them. I believe Red Bull is the main sponsor. They have supported the team in the design of the capsule, suit, breathing appartus and the large amount of science that is going into the endeavor. I guess the naysayers must also relegate Chuck Yeager and Colonel Stapp to the category of idiots.....NOT!
UAL job cuts were going to come anyway because they just recently admitted they had been running many unprofitable routes out of IAH....the Hobby decision just gave them an excuse to blame someone else rather than their own poor management. Sad thing is, many UAL employees I have spoken to believe the corporate line....but those are the union guys on the line.
Reading these posts, especially some of the last ones, gives a chuckle, but seriously, the Cabin Crew announces that a major part of their duty is pax safety. In Industry, safety sensitive jobs require drug and alcohol tests to insure a system of random monitoring....for the sake of public safety. Why shouldn't the FAs be in the same sort of random pools, have to take phsicals where certain medical condx such as Bi Polar disorder would disqualify them for flight?
On a flight from Portland to Houston recently, two men of ME appearance caused a distrubance on the flight when one lighted what turned out to be an electronic cigarrete. He refused to put it out when instructed by the Flight Crew. He and his companion are reported to have been yelling Allah Akbar when confronted by a group of passengers who assisted in subduing the one while he was cuffed.
I think that since 9/11 people in the main have decided that PC can take a backseat to personal and group safety when flying and have decided that just maybe it's better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission when deciding to act. Hesitation could prove deadly. It is 9/11, guys like these two and the actions of the 14 ME men recently that cause the "sensitivty" to those of ME appearance, a reaction that could be expected regardless of ethnicity.
Yeah, and it could have been induced by fighting off the gravitational effects of a UFO....come on Jayden, who pissed in your cheerios?? Based on the skimpy empirical data so far, give the pilots some credit that whether it was flight control, engine loss, W&B or UFO issues, they did a helluva job getting her on the ground with no one injured. You don't know, none of us know the facts yet. If you have a negative bent as you seem to have, you can come up with a lot of negative woulda, coulda, shouldas. Pilot interviews, CVR and the NTSB investigation will tell.
