(CNN)As if airports weren't stressful enough, a new "bullet-in-luggage" scam in the Philippines is piling on fresh hell for passengers. Travelers from all over the world are said to have been targeted by airport security staff who allegedly plant live ammunition in luggage in order to extort money. Sound like a nice place to avoid.
Jeez! They had all kinds of scams in the late '60's and early 70's that I thought were pretty imaginative and I see that they're still good at it. It's a shame you can't trust the people who are there to protect you! When I went back for a couple of weeks in 2000 I had that slight sense of dread the whole time I was there. Extortion is big business in the PI. Other than that, I enjoyed the trips immensely.
