Airbus Vies With Boeing to Fill Niche Once Held by 757 Jetliner
The Boeing 757, the longest narrow-body ever, triggered dueling views in front of an aerospace-industry audience on Monday over which manufacturer could best replace it. (airnation.net) More...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Airbus will win in the short term the battle to replace the 757. The question is what market will be left by the time Boeing has a new aircraft ready for production?
It boils down to this: is this a niche as the title says, or is it a viable market segment?
If it is only a niche, Boeing would be foolish to try to enter the competition several years after Airbus did, with a design that doesn't have any clear advantages, and first deliveries years into the future. They would need to low-ball Airbus to get market share, and that eats into their profit.
