She is successfully campaigning for greater approval from the House, the Senate and the Congress ! No ? In terms of image as well as for bigger booty (funds) . Who knows ?
But is it serving the cause if investigation ? I wonder . Can she draw conclusions ? No. Is any body asking for daily briefing ? No. So why this hoola boo? Why this carnal desire for TV exposure ? Strong words , may be. But all this PR , a shear waste of public money and time.

I disagree Mr. Mittal. It was clear to me that her motive was to represent the people. I do not believe she has a personal agenda. Most of us know from experience they key factors that cause accidents like this. All those issues were addressed without prejudice. Ms Hersfeld is motivated to produce a "transparent" account to provide "the travelling public" with information that is in the interests of safety. I find your view prejudiced and as your comment "Why this carnal desire for tv exposure" I would be grateful if you could explain that comment further.

First all , please try to reach the underlying idea of my comment. I had expressed my concerns by saying " strong words " . So please do not be offended. It was a metaphor. I am more grown up than that. I still wonder what purpose these daily briefings are serving ? Since the earliest days of my professional life I have followed the path of transparency and demand the SAME from others, especially the public functionaries. How can she address safety concerns without knowing the causes ? Today, every one is thirsty for the Pilots' blood ! Let them loose on road, and some one will literally shoot them down. If I am right , should I be right ? Please give it a thought. I am sure that the cock pit crew is quarantined, under severe vigil. To protect them from outsiders as well as from them selves. Like an under trial of a serious/heinous crime.
Once again please over look the specific words. But I maintain my stand about the PR approach. I may prove to be ill informed, but please check , in the past how often has the NTSB held similar daily briefings , considering their VERY wide canvas / jurisdiction of operations. Accidents involving any thing that moves, barring birds, marine creatures and animals.

Airline accidents are always interesting for the public. The lady has not indicated that the crew is to blame. She laid the task out on the table and advised the measures her organisation was taking. Your comments insinuated that the exposition was "carnal". It is this statement that is disturbing.

So her objective is to make briefings 'interesting' for the public. Or say 'juicy' . Or say for their entertainment. A strange purpose to my mind .

I repeat, I clarified - a 'metaphor', beyond that I am helpless.

You are forgiven Sir. I cannot detect anything in the reports that sensationalise the events. The reports are logical and without prejudice. The aim is to reassure the public that accident events are properly and thoroughly investigated. Questions are invited and answered from representatives of the media. USA based airlines carry 2 million passengers a day. I would guess all of them are reassued by the way these press conferences conducted. Moreover I suggest that they have every confidence that their safety is assured. There can be no better way to further this aim than the method Ms Hersfeld uses.

I think this current director of the NTSB ought to stop her political posing. I resent her on camera speculation without complete information.

I think you are missing a point. The daily briefing is chumming the shark tank of what passes for news. They may intend to deflect the media's continual quest for the sensational tidbit and also their cry for blood if the administration fails to provide it. If not for the briefings, they would be hounding the white house for details and yelling 'cover up' or some such rot.

BTW, I think you mean sheer, as in "sheer, unadulterated gall of CNN"

Which part was speculation?

Non was speculation. These posters resent the fact that she is playing a straight ball with public money.

No one can hide anything with this lady. As it happens in my opinion her background as a USAF brat means that she was around aviation all of her life and she has a gifted unbias view of accidents.

The method of press conferences are not only applied to aviation accidents. She uses the same method for ANY accident within the sphere of accidents in transport.

This lady is exactly waht the USA tax payer deserves. I wish I could say the same for the FAA management who are scared of their own faces in the mirror.

Right you are my Friend. But on public media, before the final details/report one should not hesitate to announce the caveat involved at every outing to the press room . Without that , any statement is wild guess, speculation, character assassination and what ever adjectives you may choose to add or subtract ! And this stage the biggest caveat is the BB report coupled with oral evidence of cock pit crew as well as ATC personnel and their audios. Otherwise, it is again one of the glaring examples of trial on Media, as well as trial by the Media ! This is against the principles of natural justice. Be it any country. And this is what determines the extent of civil liberties available in a society. Whether USA, Russia or China or even India (my country).

You are viewing this as a lawyer. I view this as a member of the public who has an interest in aviation. This is 2013 and we are communicating on the internet. Ms Hersfeld does this media exposition with every case she investigates in transport. This method applies to any accident where the public are involved in using man made effects on land, air and water. The statements outline the measures that are being taken to identify the cause...no blame is assigned. No malice is evident. As you know very well cultural values differ in different countries. The culture of the USA values transparency in public bodies paid for by the tax payers. The politicians endorse this method because they know the public appreciate it. The statements made by Ms Hersfeld are clear and unambiguous. The media companies have the definitive source and are prevented from making conclusions.
