OSHKOSH – Looking at the plane with colorful nose art and black and white stripes painted on its wings, it’s easy to imagine it waiting to take off with other aircraft on a moonless night in 1944, it’s cargo hold filled with anxious paratroopers. A C-47 transport plane dubbed “That’s All, Brother” was one of the lead aircraft in the D-Day invasion and was found three years ago in the boneyard of Basler Aviation in Oshkosh. For at least the second time this winter, Southwest Airlines had trouble de-icing planes at Midway Airport, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded. On Sunday, the Chicago Department of Aviation’s website showed cancellations of all Southwest Airlines flights departing Midway. A coroner says two people died after two planes collided at a northeastern Indiana airport. Grant County Coroner Chris Butche has identified the victims as the pilot, 31-year-old Kyle Hibst, and passenger, 31-year-old David Wittkamper, both of Elwood. Great Lakes Air blames new qualifications for flight crews in the ending of service to five small towns in Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan.
