Op-Ed: Is the Boeing 777X Too Big?

Submitted

Many analysts are of the opinion that the “sweet-spot” of the market for widebody airliners is approximately the size of the 777-200/ER to 777-300/ER and not a seat bigger. They argue that the A380 was a failure (which it wasn’t), the 747-8I was a miserable one, though. It is said that the, comparatively soft, early sales of the Next Generation 777 prior to launch are because of its capacity. (airwaysmag.com) More...

777X stretch is only marginally small compared to the large jump in seat numbers when A380 was introduced.

the seats can be filled to nearly the utilization of the 380, but with tolerable fuel burn. The reluctance to order lots and lots of these is caused by market uncertainties, as well as the emergence of LCC long range carriers, who performance is tempering the enthusiam for a stunning achievement new aircraft.

Its size won't matter if it has secret software pilots never know about until it kills them or if the production line has the same poor tool control of the KC-46 line.

Boeing, what the hell happened to you?

If the A380 wasn't a failure, it sure wasn't much of a success, either. Successful aircraft stay in production.
