Unfortunate. Heart viability is severely comprimised after 6 hours according to the doctors back in my midnight body parts in the early 80’s.

They were using it for the valves. Yes the heart was compromised but the valves under stored condition are good for 2 days.

I really hadn't thought of it from the valve perspective when I read the article and thought what HF said. Flew for SWOB under contract in the 90's in Lears and in the 20 plus years in c6550's as on demand up till I retired . I will never forget how cavalier the always young harvest team seemed to be when they worried more about the pizza being onboard than the weather. You could guess what they were going after by the size of the Igloo cooler. Heart, lungs, liver, big cooler. Eyes, kidney et.al., small cooler. I didn't ask, they didn't say. I guess it all worked out.

Eventually, Southwest's heart was in the right place.

Lol that’s good and funny. But in a good note the heart made its final destination in safe and quick fashion.

Just read about that here. The heart was originally boarded here in KSMF. It was to fly to SEA, then left onboard for the flight to KDAL, then over Idaho, returned to KSEA. And then on top of that, the flight had mechanical issues. 5 hour delay at KSEA.
