Submitted
Airbus may be lagging behind in the race between the A350 and 787, but it has won another important airline over for this fight. (jansaviation.com) More...

Did anyone note the irony of Delta using most of the Airbus' out of Seattle on Pacific trade?

It depends on the season and what we are rotating through different hubs. This month LHR, CDG, ICN, NRT, and HND all see 76s from SEA. Most happen to be 76s out of SEA this month.

Not until you just now mentioned it, but with corporate in Chicago now, albeit big, Seattle are is just another plant.

I believe Pan Am placed a billion dollar order for Airbus, then went out of business.

Et tu, Delta?

Looks to me like DAL will become the North American stronghold for the Bus. Let's see if it bites them in the a** in a year or 2. Tech Ops will be going crazy fixing things.

On the serious side, delivery time was key issue and Boeing just looking at total numbers when they should have been targeting customers.

All Boeing has are 77's for immediate delivery. 87's are way behind schedule

Lot's of DAL pilots are leaving as they will not fly the Bus

I really, really doubt that.

Well, that's the word on the street; Mostly earlier retirement than planned; sad part is though, as they leave or retire early, plenty standing in line.

I'm a Boeing fan, but I'll be one of the guys standing in line! I think the A350 is the first Airbus with sex-appeal.

It's a nice looking plane but will it last, in the trenches daily, like the Boeings or will it start nickel and diming them after the new wears off. There is where a Boeing product shines.

It was certainly true in the past that Boeing built a better airplane then Airbus. But I don't thinks it's true anymore. Boeing's quality has gone down and Airbus's has gotten better making them both pretty much equal.

People generally don't like change and I bet Detla pilots are feeling that after hearing the news about the Airbus's. I'm sure some will retire but most will probably come around on flying the Airbus

I also don't believe Delta intentionally snubbed Boeing with this move. Delta already has thirty-two (32) A330's that they inherited from Northwest, and they were able to get early delivery slots to get a lot of planes fast with A330NEO and A350.

The one thing that does surprise me with the move by Delta is even if they didn't want to wait for additional 787's slots, why they didn't have more interest in the 777 family. The 777 may not be a good fit to replace the 767's but 20 or so 777-300ER's or additional 777-200LR's would have been a good fit for the 747's.

That's what I can't understand. I had heard the 767's were going away but no real word on the 777. According to the article, the delivery time had a whole lot to do with it. I think this is where Boeing made a mistake by going after total numbers rather than trying to anticipate customer needs. NWA, already being in the AB fold probably added to this some as they had bonafide experience to go on as well.

You are probably correct on the pilots. I'm sure there will be some retire rather than retrain but the younger ones will really have no choice

Move forward or get out of the way. I'll bet there are a few flight engineers who weren't thrilled to lose their jobs when the 47's gave way to twin engine jets.

The later model 47's were 2 people flight deck, so it wasn't just the twins that got them.
