Delta Web Glitch Gives Flyers Super Low Fares

Submitted
A web glitch gave flyers an additional holiday present on Thursday when Delta Air Lines offered flights at incredibly low prices. Some fares were under $5 and round-trip, transcontinental fares were $25, not including taxes and fees.... (www.frequentbusinesstraveler.com) More...

Scene- weekly Executives Meeting, Richard's office, Atlanta, Georgia.

Richard (CEO): "I see sales are pretty slow today, ladies and gentleman"

Director of Reservation Sales: "Yep, it's that time of year, gonna be a few weeks before Spring Break, and everyone has spent all their money on presents last week"

Public Relations Director: "hey, that thing United did a few months back worked pretty well, ya know, with the 'Pricing Glitch'.

Richard: "Brilliant! Go ahead and put some low prices up on Delta.com, but just enough to fill a few of the insold seats."

Public Relations Director: "Excellent. I'll get the word out to the press about our 'Glitch', and how we will honor the crazy low prices"

You have a firm grasp of what is now called "marketing" and was once known as the art of "the flimflam"!

Funny how these web fare errors do seem to happen when the airlines have extra unsold inventory to move.

and I have no doubt the takers will be ID'd by seat number and not offered even peanuts on the $25 transcon :)

I'll offer this is accidental. If it was on purpose, Delta would leak it to the media and sit back and enjoy the publicity.

The problem is the airlines are jerking the prices up and down so fast, there is no time for proofing before release. These errors will continue as long as airlines are free to change prices anytime and fail to pay staff a professional wage. As it stands there are monkeys in charge of the cash box.

Publicity:
Chicago Tribune- "Delta website error yields super-low fares for some fliers"
New York Times- "Computer Error Lets Travelers Book Rock-Bottom Airfares on Delta"
LA Times- "Delta website error gives ultra-low air fares to some lucky fliers"
Yahoo News- "Delta to Honor Super-Low Mistake Fares"

Etc Etc. They are enjoying the publicity :)

Hmm, guessing the monkeys didn't care for my opinion.

how dare you offer an opinion on a chat board :)
Don't let the haters get to ya.
I absolutely agree with the living wage portion. I see it daily on the ground operations side of things, can't imagine it's much different on the IT side, where the race to outsource to the lowest bidder has been going on just as long.

It has always amazed me how airlines manage to have wonderful operations management and idiots runnung the companies. We have virtually no airline fatalities yet hardly any carrier makes a profit. Anyone have an answer?
