Most aircraft use about two-thirds of the runway to take off. This is an Ilyushin IL76 freight aircraft taking off fully laden for an 11 hour flight, warm day, no wind....... oh and look, no runway left either! (www.youtube.com) More...

That was at Canberra Airport. I've had the same problem trying to land a C172 - damn thing would "float" along the runway, because of the hot air rising off the runway!

that was really lucky that he didn't have a big issue or something. It would have been terrible if he didn;t lift off, but that's what the extra room on the runway is there for...

I rather enjoyed the tower conversation... "The vodka burner is rolling." "We have Smirnoff." "You're going to have to go faster than that, Captain." "You can lift it up any time you like."
