Qantas pilot Richard de Crespigny was flying the A380 Airbus when one of its engines famously exploded en route from Singapore to Sydney. Richard de Crespigny is one of Qantas' most senior and experienced pilots. On 24 November 2010, he was in charge of the huge A380 Airbus, fitted with state of the art aviation technology, as it left Singapore.
