What happened at Newark/EWR.? Disabled aircraft on runway

Anyone know what happened? departure delays of 31 minutes to 45 minutes (and increasing) due to an aircraft emergency arrival delays for airborne aircraft of 1 hours 1 minutes to 1 hours 15 minutes (and increasing) due to a disabled aircraft on a runway all inbound flights being held at their origin until Saturday at 10:30 EST due to a disabled aircraft on a runway (flightaware.com) More...

Air Transat flight 942 from Montreal to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida made an emergency landing in Newark due to the possibility of a fire in the cargo hold. the aircraft is a Boeing 737-800. tail registration is C-GTQG.
