Southwest Airlines struggling to rectify onboard Wi-Fi problems

Submitted
Southwest Airlines is having connectivity issues. No, we’re not talking about the protracted effort to connect the mainland United States with Hawaii, a new route the low-fare carrier has been threatening to launch for some time. This is a Wi-Fi connectivity problem that for months has affected a number of planes in the Southwest fleet — to say nothing of the passengers flying those planes who might have expected to have Wi-Fi connectivity while en route to their destinations — some a number of… (www.bizjournals.com) More...

Must be Comcast! Good luck getting it fixed.

From reading between the lines my takeaway is management made poor initial choices; disabled some of those services; didn't fully inform their flight attendants who had to deal with complaints; is now working "diligently" as a "team" on the issue.

Passengers might have to actually look out the window and enjoy the flight. The horror of it all!

WEATHERISE...I guess I am a bit old fashioned, but I agree with you..the advantage to wifi is a passenger can conduct busness, pay bills or whatever with their devices ,if it is available..the "old fashioned" part of me says people actualy used to nap a bit, look out the window, or even quietly chat (if the person wanted to talk) with the person in the seat next to them, before this feature was added to aircraft...

This will fix the bandwidth problem... SES-17 is a satellite still to be launched that will be dedicated to in flight connectivity. It will use 200 spot beams to keep aircraft linked in a cellular fashion. https://www.ses.com/press-release/ses-and-thales-unveil-next-generation-capabilities-onboard-ses-17

I took two SWA flights yesterday. PBI to BWI and BWI to DAL. The first leg of the flight had great WiFI service. On the second leg of the flight WiFi was not working. It was clearly disconnected as my mobile devices could not see an available router.

Probably just not enough bandwidth available.

Do like the sign in the local saloon says, "no wifi, talk to each other"

My flights from KBWI to KSEA and back in September both had issues. If you run an airline with only one class of service, especially on cross country flights, this is annoying at best.
