MC-21-300 commercial airliner has completed maiden flight

Submitted
On 28 May, 2017, the maiden flight of MC-21-300 commercial aircraft took place at the airfield of Irkutsk Aviation Plant, the affiliate of Irkut Corporation (a UAC member). The duration of the flight was 30 minutes at the altitude of 1000 meters, at the speed of 300 km/hour. The flight plan included checking of in-flight stability and controllability, and also the controllability of the power plant. (mc21eng.irkut.com) More...

What is interesting is,the airframe itself is all built in-house...UAC even makes airframe pieces for Airbus..also be interesting to see how those PD-14 engines stack up

The most interesting part for me is how composite wings end up working. PD-14 finished "second stage" of testing recently and got permission to be tested on MC-21, should be flying on it next year.

Where an 1980's designed A320 hull is wider than a 1955-designed 737 hull, this one is again wider than the A320. Plus flying with a much lower cabin altitude.

Still no official video, so a couple more unofficial ones:

To me what is interesting is that this company is manufacturing aircraft for Yak and Sukhoy also. The MC designation is not a design group that I am familiar with, unless it is Mikoyan from the MiG Design group.
The aircraft itself looks a lot like Airbus.

Irkut acquired Yakovlev in 2004, then the Russian government merged Mikoyan, Ilyushin, Irkut, Suhkoi and Tupolev into United Aircraft Building Corp in 06 (UAC for short)

MS-21 (or MC-21 in Russian) stands for Magistral Airliner, read narrow-body of 21st century.
It was originally designed by Yakovlev design bureau as Yak-242 in early 90s, heavily revised after Irkut acquired Yakovlev: composite wings, tail and some other parts; improved aerodynamics; modern engines, avionics, etc. Sukhoi also holds some shares of Irkut.

They better not sell any in the USA or Boeing will be claiming they are dumping....except given the Chinese market and Chinese central control of purchasing, they would not dare.

They surely could use a better translator:

"Calculated reduction of direct operational costs for MC-21 is 12-15% lower than for counterparts."
