Submitted
Night-vision video of the F-35 completing short takeoffs and vertical landings during carrier operation trials. The view of the moving thrust angles is incredible. (www.youtube.com) More...

For a second it looked like the canopy was open during take-off. LOL. That is a huge chunk of drag! It seems to work a lot easier than the Harrier. I wonder what the difficulty level is on something like this?

That's not the 'glass' canopy that is open. It's something to do with the engine, isn't it, air intake or somesuch?

The canopy wasn't open, that was the inlet door for the forward lift fan.
It's hinged on the aft end, the canopy is hinged on the front end.
Go to full screen and you can see it better.

USS Wasp isn't classified as an aircraft carrier - at least not by the US Navy. I could do without the music at the beginning, but at least the poster was nice enough to let us listen to her engine during flight ops.
