I'm gonna be at Litchfield Beach week after next. Maybe they'll do a low altitude fly-by of The Grand Strand! Might scare the crap out of the banner planes.... :-)

You know, I'm a Boeing guy too, but in reality, maybe it's me or my feelings about 4 engines but that 340 is one fine looking machine, plumb graceful. I might have to break down and try and type in one some day if the opportunity ever arises.LOL

Brian: you posted a wondrful story about aviation. We all have our own political views and it seems that they all manage to get intertwined and filter in to any conversation. I am as guilty as anyone else. It seems that the bottom part of this thread has and will further degenerate into a political discussion rather than much of anything about aviation. Judging from the mindsets that will not be changed with any amount of rhetoric or argument, I'll say congrats on post of the week and I'm outa here.

Well said my friend. After that 14 hours and keeping the dirty side down, go have that beer. You have earned it, and hopefully have brought a touch of that long forgotten thing, common sense to this string.

Monte, thank you for the astute observation. I'm sure the 27,000 HP employees and 14,000 A/A employees, wish they had somewhere to go. If Boeing can't deliver...another country will.

preacher1 1
Gal, you are just so right it ain't even funny. A person can go on politics on whichever side they choose, but as we have moved into a global economy, people are going to have to realize that competition is the name of the game and life doesn't owe them a living, that Europe builds Airplanes too. I haven't understood the HP deal yet but that started last year with a very stupid(IMHO)management decision to get out of the hardware market. They had the top selling product in the world and were the darling of Wall St, and they decided they could do better in software. What we see today is the end result. Sad

I really fail to see your point- apparently you are a conservative because you tout the previous administrations "success" in the business forum. Nopw correct me if I am wrong- conservatives ae for "less governemnt" invovlemtn in the business world and I have seen no adverse actions by this administration that would affect either Cessna or any other manufacturers. Can you please be more specific?
bentwing60

It has taken me 5 months to decide to reply to your inane comment, but here goes. Of course I am a conservative, the wagon trains didn't have food stamps, government support or social security. The right to fend for yourself these days seems to only entitle you to pay more taxes for those who won't. Again, this is not a political forum, so don't condemn my belief that I should pay my own rent and take care of my own. If you liberals are so magnanimous, then pay for it out of your pocket, not mine. If you know anything about aviation, which I doubt, you are extremely Myopic. If such is the case then go find another forum or do some homework.

keep Obama out of this discussion you idiot

Obama may not need to be in this discussion but they speaks the truth. Might not have been him personally but it was no thanks to the NLRB and they were all his.

Bill Fox -5
so why blame him, the planning of the plant in Charleston started long before Obama took office, I love it, you Obama haters find an excuse to accuse him for everything, when in fact, it was Bush, who truely is an idiot , oh well, the point here is, Boeing did a great job, is that not what this discussion is about ?
preacher1
preacher1 4
You are correct in that Boeing did a great job
pixelvt
Bill Fox 2
here is the deal, I am just tired of, for every topic that comes up, someone bashes Obama, we voted him in, and if people don't want him back, speak with your vote. So why is it, when this discussion is about Boeing, some Obama hater has to bring him up, stupid. And for your information, I am a defense contractor, and sell to Boeing and many others, I have some insight here after over 30 years in this business. I am not attacking you, or anyone, but I think when you get off topic like this its just nuts. Correct me if I am wrong, but Obama had nothing to do with the SC decision. BTW, I saw the plant last fall and I was truly amazed, I would love to set foot in that baby. Charleston is a good area, we do business with the Navy there and I get there once in awhile. Want to debate politics, there are other forums. Frankly, as you can probably tell already, IMHO, Obama is doing a good job considering the mess he inherited. People can always spin things if they want to, but I just try and be objective. Just my 2 cents..
preacher1
preacher1 2
I definitely agree with you on the forum and for the most part it(the rhetoric) has been out of here over the last few months. You are correct about the plant and all being planned/located, etc. before OBAMA but even the most ardent OBAMA supporter would have to agree that the NLRB( mainly BHO appointees) gave Boeing some unnecssary anxious moments and grief last year. I was proud to see it all dropped and gone away so they could get on with building Airplanes, which culminated in this. There was quite a bit of talk last year that if it had gone the other way, that we might not have witnessed this event. We are on opposite sides of the fence politically, andmust just agree to disagree, but like you, I believe the place to speak is at the Ballot Box in November, not in this forum.

It's because Obama was AGAINST the S.C. plant, just trying to get some Union donations to his campaign. No more, no less.

Bill, Jan Potter is not the idiot here.
boughbw
boughbw -1
Yes, she is.
Boeing decided to open in SC before Obama was elected. Whatever the NLRB wanted to do was based on the laws in-place before and during Obama's tenure more than on anything Obama may have wanted.
The reason Boeing wanted to move to SC was to kick their union to the curb and to pay their workers less.
The reason Boeing wanted to make this move is that the union struck at a crucial point in the building of the 787 in Everett.
There is plenty of blame to go around, but none of it really belongs at Obama's feet.
I congratulate Boeing on the success of its SC plant. I also think it is disgusting that Americans are actively trying to undervalue the work done by fellow Americans in an attempt to depress wages. This is not a black and white issue, it is unfathomably gray.
bishops90
Brian Bishop 2
You are completely incorrect sir. I live and work in SC and NOTHING was done against the Charleston plant until the Obama cronies at the NLRB saw an opportunity to go after Boeing and basically hold this new plant hostage until concessions were made by Boeing to placate Obama's UNION base of support in the norhtwest. That is the simple, undisputable FACT. We deal with facts on these pages, not yoir partisan political whining.

WALLACE24
WALLACE24 1
Politics come into play because they affect aviation so much. I'm just GA and the current admin wants $100/ flt. That does not sit well with those of us in GA. Airline folks are more interested in the business of airlines and how it affects their paycheck. This admin wants everyone to fly mass transit and forego personal airplanes.......unless you are a government employee. That is why aviation forums quickly drift to the political side.

IT IS A GREAT DAY FOR THE US AIRPLANE INDUSTRY, REGARDLESS OF WHERE IT IS MADE IN THE US. GENERAL AVIATION IS DOWN DUE TO THE ECONOMY.HAWKER BEECHCRAFT IS A VICTUM OF THE MONEY PEOPLE THAT OWN IT. IF YOU ONLY EXPECT TO TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN AND NOT INVEST IN NEW PRODUCTS OR TECHNOLOGY THEN THIS IS WHAT YOU GET "HAWKER BEECHCRAFT"!
