Hopefully the area of the leak is aft of the engines. I'm sure it's not good for the turbine if the $#!t hits the fan.

No news here. The airlines have been dumping on us for many years. Life rule #459: Never look up when a plane flies over!

It seems a big leap from blackish-greenish oil to a lav dump. I am sure this aircraft-savvy audience can find multiple aircraft sources that match the description that do not drain from the lav. Of course, a lav dump is far more entertaining.

preacher1 1
I'll not reveal the source, but the bottom of a holding tank does not look anything like the pretty, greenish, sweet smelling, chemical that comes out when you flush it. The liquid part matches this description to a T.lol. Problem is that everybody is talking about it being a full dump and it's not anything more than a leak, which is not uncommon. You hear of several case where ice comes crashing thru someplace. This is in most case, a leak at altitude, it freezes and then dislodges as the plane descends. In this case, it happened on takeoff so no freezing, but could happen anywhere.

A "Crappy" Take Off

.. And in New York, It's been said that it's good luck when a bird poops on you. So how lucky are you if a plane accidentally lets loose on you?

Whats the chances of Blue Ice falling on someones head. It just doesnt sound right especially since the aircraft is not in one static position.

It's a load of cral, I don't believe it is possible on a commercial A/P.

It's not as far as being able to make a manual release, but in looking at the article, this wasn't a whole load. Sounds like leakage. In the past there have been ice chunks fall in various places when one has leaked at higher altitude and froze.

I wonder how trustworthy this is. Airlines don't do this- they keep all-ahh-waste-on board and pump it out at the end of the fligjt

maybe not so funny as most of you think, fecal material contains many bacteria some of them dangerous especially if that plane has been in some less developed parts of the world and has not been properly steralized.

Sounds like BULL S%$# to me.
There is going to be an airliner with it's lav access door mangled or missing,
and also the dump cap will be absent for this to occur.

The question is: If the shit got out of the lavatory, then that means there is an opening in the fuselage of the aircraft all the way to teh cabin and that can cause a problem at 38000 ft.

Guy walks into a bar covered with blue nasty-smelling fluid. Says to bartender, "Yea. I'm a major airline sanitation engineer. I empty the lavatory holding tanks after landings and sometimes the valve on the hose doesn't seal just right. "Ever think of getting into a different line of work?" asks the bartender. "What!?!" says the guy, "And get out of the AIRLINE BUSINESS!?!!"

Had a Co-worker in the sixties, emptying the Lavatory in the aft end of Convair-340, that valve cover didn't seal properly either. As he stood very close to it, after opening it he was splattered from top to bottom. Well, you guessed it al we could say was, hey man - you can even do sh***y job sh***y.

If there was any truth to this story I would be asking questions about the walk around done before takeoff. If the door, seal, and handle were all left pulled and open on takeoff those are some unobservant ground handlers!

Haha this very question was asked of my by a childhood friend: "When you flush the lav at altitude, does it just dump out on the ground?" Now I have an answer, lol!

The myth busters tested this and it would have had to have been a double valve failure for this to even happen.

Highly unlikely that it was what laboratory fluid.
