Opinion: United’s Pilot Recruitment Policy Is the Right Move — If Done Correctly

What happens if there is no interest from women and BIPOCs in the "correct" numbers/%? Several people I know (both female and non-white GA students/pilots) already have good paying careers (mostly in tech) have NO INTEREST in going backward, with the accompanying high training costs, and starting out making 20K a year for several years and sleeping in crew houses to make ends meet.

The only correct way is to hire the best candidates you can get, no matter ‘what’ they are. setting an ethnic or sexist target is the worst thing you could possibly do.

Many of today's retiring commercial pilots were inspired by the achievements of their WWII and/or military fathers. They were also motivated by a romanticized age of stunning aviation advancements - and therefore are a very different breed than those recruited today.
