Medical emergency forces United flight to make unscheduled landing at Syracuse

Syracuse, NY – A United Airlines plane bound for Chicago from Burlington, Vt., made an emergency landing this morning at Syracuse Hancock International Airport after a passenger experienced a medical problem, Interim Aviation Commissioner Christina Reale said.

The passenger, whose identity was not available, was among 50 aboard United Flight 5871, Reale said. The passenger was taken to a hospital after the plane landed about 7:10 a.m., she said. She declined to disclose the nature of the passenger's medical problem, citing state health privacy law.

The plane, an the Embraer Regional Jet, resumed its journey at 7:56 a.m., she said.
