An Iran Air Tour McDonnell Douglas MD-82, registration EP-MDE performing flight B9-961 from Mashad to Tehran Mehrabad (Iran), was climbing out of Mashad when the crew decided to return to Mashad due to the cabin not properly pressurizing. The aircraft landed safely back about 15 minutes after departure.

A replacement aircraft took the passengers to Tehran with a delay of about 7.5 hours.

The airline reported the aircraft returned to Mashad after about 15 minutes of flight when the cabin pressure could not be regulated as necessary. Maintenance worked to resolve the issue and returned the aircraft to service, however, the aircraft needed to return a second time due to the same problem. A replacement aircraft was dispatched.
