Great photo of a plane I didn't even know existed!

Good ole PANAM (for the non initiated this is Pan American World Airways), PANAGRA and other airlines flew them from Florida, Caribbean and South America in the 1920s. Must have been quite an adventure to ride on them for hours on end.

Near MSP we have the Northwest Airlines History Center, a nice small museum full of memorabilia. I remember seeing a photo (and model I think) of the Sikorsky. Apparently NWA flew them up to Duluth and landed in the bay behind Park Point. Back then I think NWA flew out of St. Paul's Holman Field and I wonder if the flying boats used a runway or the river.
At any rate, it was and is a really cool plane.

What a fascinating plane! Love the “zebra” stripes.

So, one exits onto a wing?

The door or whatever you want to call it is on the left rear behind the wing. There are also sliding hatches above the cockpits and at the rear cabin.
Nice photo of an interesting plane, I've been up close to a couple of them. http://catalinagoose.homestead.com/catalinaseaplanes.html

For when he wishes to mingle with the zebras...
Zebra stripes indicate a replica of "Osa's Ark": 1930's filmmakers touring Papua New Guinea—among other locations.

Formerly-friendly headhunters groused about being filmed and threatened the photographers with simulated armed jabs. Returning to show finished films, the natives were embarrassed by their earlier threats, and let "bygones be bygones".
