VP-F** registrations are for the Falkland Islands. Anyone know why this one is registered there?
Mark Harris
VP-FBB is registered to the British Antarctic Survey so maybe is or was based on the Falkland Islands.

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) was originally the Falkland Islands Dependencies and there is a long tradition of registering British Antarctic Survey ships and aircraft in the Falkland Islands as part of that connection.

One of the greatest aircraft ever built. Is there anywhere a Twin Otter can't go? Terrific photo!
Larry Stock
Great Shot. These aircraft spend their Antarctic winters at Calgary Springbank Airport where they are maintained over the course of that time by Rocky Mountain Aircraft, specialists in DHC6 maintenance.

Pardon my ignorance:
WHAT is a SKIWAY?
Is it part of a lake?
Don Hines
Marylou;

A skiway is a runway - on ice - primarily designed for ski equipped aircraft to utilize. Arctic and antarctic bases all use skiways.
