In the series of shots I took of N172LA as it approached and passed by me on this lap, my photos showed nothing unusual. However, on the next lap, as this Vampire came toward me, my pictures showed the nose gear doors appeared to have dropped open. As it came past me on that next lap, the pilot pulled up and out of the race. Moments later, he declared a nose gear emergency. We departed immediately to relocate to the grandstand ramp area. After a couple of high altitude circuits, the tower and an escorting chase jet both reported that the nose gear appeared to be down. The pilot reported he was receiving a gear locked indication, and the jet landed safely on runway 08.
Late yesterday afternoon, the last race of the 2019 PRS was conducted. It was a Jet Class race, and this Vampire participated -- and finished first -- with no difficulties.

That's another great shot, Gary! As in Uwe's case, I have been checking your recent pics but haven't been commenting. Sorry! They've been exceptional and I appreciate you sharing them. Thanks, and don't work too hard, eh!
Vampire was among my favourites when I was a child in the 50's. It still is and seeing one flying makes my 69 years younger

.... thanks for the photo
