NC485W —
NC485W (N485W), a Stearman Aircraft 4DM-1 Speedmail, owned and piloted by Addison Pemberton, taxies to the T-Hangar ramp at Carson City Airport. The American Airways paint on Pemberton's Speedmail (his is one of only seven remaining Stearman Speedmails) shows the original scheme it had when it was delivered from Stearman Aircraft. This plane is one of the original 12 delivered to American Airways and was flown by the airline on its Dallas-Corpus Christi-Chicago route.
The Stearman visible in the background on the right side, which has just landed on CXP's runway 27, is Jeff Hamilton's NC489W, a Model 4EM-1 Speedmail. Hamilton's plane, too, was originally delivered to, and operated by, American Airways in the 1930s. * American Airways was the predecessor of the present day American Airlines. *
