um the near aircraft with D-0Day markings on the wings is a C-47 not a C-53....

John- Actually it is a C-53, a C-53 is a variant of the C-47. The C-53 was a "stock" DC-3 without the reenforced floor, larger cargo door, and other military upgrades. Due to the shortage of C-47s initially at the start of the War these C-53s were put into service as transports and served throughout the conflict
