Massive flap area for slow landing speeds. The Comet cruised at around 400 knots. First flight just 4 years after World War 2 ended.

MORE FUN FACT? Could it be the reason for the wing similarity is that the Comet was made by DeHavilland and the Hawker is actually a name some dope applied to the DeHavilland 125 business jet?

The Comet 4s did their job well for that era.
