Airlines Seek Permission to Keep Passengers Waiting on the Tarmac for More Than 3 Hours

Submitted
Now that Federal Aviation Administration furloughs have gone into effect, the U.S. Department of Transportation is considering lifting a rule that says airplanes can't remain on the tarmac for more than three hours for domestic flights before allowing passengers to deplane. Just one more thing to make airline travel as distasteful as ..............whatever

The only thing surprising is that it came so late. I would have expected it yesterday, since the first hint of trouble was Sunday.

If this was a good rule in the first place, why the hell would it not be good now?

Cause most of the regular punters have got certs from medics that they have pulmonary heart conditions and have to be taken back to the gate for medivac. guranteed "I'm outta here now" tactic.

Oh! I thought people suddenly started to like sitting on a grounded plane with urine running down the isle(s).

Hahah...thats the reason why the smart set get the certs...

Diazepam sales will soar...or maybe discreet calming sleep gas stuff thru the A/C. We do the chemtrails...why stop outside the airplane?

I thought chemtrails was a load of hooey. Are you telling me it's not?

Yup I certainly am. The north ice cap is melting at a fast rate. The Gulf stream is acting up. As I write this it is 5 degrees C on April 27 on 2013. They are doing all they can to reflect sunlight. I know all the standard routes over my place and yesterday I watched some traffic above 40K at more than decimal 9. The debris ejected fans out into a thin veil that eventually becomes overcast. The frequency of the flights are about 20 mins at 5 mile offsets. The jetstream does the rest.

How about the airlines not loading the damn planes until they get an idea of the delay from the tower. If this passes, they can make you sit on the plane longer, burning more fuel and increasing the cost (not commensurate with the fuel burn). with the airlines serving a small bag of stale peanuts, it could really get rediculous.

They ain't got enough gates to commence with but they'll get cleared for enginge start and taxi out, hopefully receiving their slot clearance on the way out. If they could turn around and come back & deplane, when the slot did come up, if they weren't there to take it, ATC would just go to the next guy on the list going that way and that flight would go to the bottom. If it was a bad heavy corridor, you might never go as there is no time to reboard and go thru all that crap again. Flight crews don't like it either as a lot of them are getting paid on wheels up time now rather than shove time.

I see El Al and Lufthansa had a strike on the same day....if these guys can co-ordinate withdrawal of labour why can't USAer flyers?

This is some more of Obama's administration idea to hold the American Public hostage in order to have them press their representatives to vote his "Spend and Tax" proposals in.

We use a car for business trips 90 miles or less, our small aircraft for trips up to 400 miles, and the airlines for longer flights. The ATC delays and the rescinding of the Tarmac" rules will make using a small aircraft more feasible for longer business flights. Even with an additional fuel stop, can still get it there before the airlines. Haven't filed for an IFR trip yet to gauge release times but on a VFR day we will be ahead.

IFR is where you would have a problem. Hopefully this thing Congress did will bring some relief but how long it will take to untangle it all is anybody's guess. My feeling is that pax will think it's all over and they'll get on it ASAP.

Do you reckon a small plane leaving from lightly used airspace and staying below 15k will expierence much? I doubt it if your going to anything class D or less. As far as beating airline schedules I figure I can beat them to anywhere east of the Rockies (home to destination). Lol

I did just hear on CNN that there was a misspelling on a word in that Bill and that O couldn't sign it. No word on correction/reprint time.LOL

FAA: Keep the fines, just call them a non-tax revenue source.

BWI to the Ny area, it's nearly a ty. To EWR driving's an advantage. If I'm going to JAX for more than a week, I take my car. I can be at the FL iine in 10 hrs if I push it.

I'm personally hoping that this deal that the Senate passed today gets approved in the House and all this crap stops; not just on account of public inconvenience but for the sake of all the FAA pro's that are having to take the furloughs. They are on the receiving end of all that mess without a say in it.

How the hell you guys get yourself into a mess like this is unbelievable to me. A set of 15 year olds have more sense than the bozos you hire to do responsible jobs.

The politicians do not mess around with aviation cause they know the tax revenues will fall if they mess it up.

Here's an example....CLT to ALB....Fare around $320...
Most flights are connecting. There a few direct. Lucky if I can get on one. Since US went to express jets, there are few seats....Anyway. The gate to gate time for connecting is 4-5 hrs. Now, I have to leave 2 hrs before take off to get to the airport, park, take the shuttle, go thru security. Fly there. Friend has to drive 50 miles to pick me up. Total travel time is about 9 hrs.
If I drive, it takes 12. AND I have my own car to use. If I want, I can stop and see friends along the way. And I don't have to pay extra to bring my golf clubs.
So, to save three hours and spend about the same amount of money on fuel and meals if I drive. And no airport hassles. No delays. No grumbling flight attendants. No screaming kids. No smelly people. No inconsiderate dolts who try to stuff half their home in an overhead bin.No stupid people who think the other PAX are riveted by everything they have to say..

I been doing about the same lately going to Florida from Kentucky. I have to drive 2 hours to Bna anyhow. A big plus is that I can leave and return on my own shedule.

Benito Mussolini made the trains in Italy run on time. Perhaps our president can do the same with airplanes?

How about deploying military controllers to civil towers on furlough days? Oh, that's been tried before.
Derg
Roland Dent 1
How dumb can you get...? Or do they just want to keep the air marshalls busy. might as well make them work...right?

I have to agree with the airlines. They shouldn't be fined by delays caused by the FAA furloughs (Slowdown).

The net discomfort to pax is the same though with or without fines. Lol
