United Airlines Launches International Dreamliner Service Today

Submitted
United Airlines is set to become the first U.S. airline to offer Boeing 787 Dreamliner service on international flights. The airline, which was Boeing’s U.S. launch customer for the Dreamliner, will begin daily nonstop service between its hub at Los Angeles International Airport and Tokyo Narita, today. The route was previously operated using Boeing 777 aircraft. (www.frequentbusinesstraveler.com) More...

A friend of mine who flies B777s internationally tells me that his airline´s 787s continue having glitches even though they have been in service for over a year, not serious ones though but sometimes even the resident Boeing tech reps can not fix them and have to summon Seattle engineers. Other than this, the 787s are performing better than expected in terms of fuel efficiency, cruising speeds, etc. and the airline is pleased with them.

Since most cannot afford busines class, wonder what kind of seats they put in other sections - hopefully not those 'slide' type seats that ANA put in their 787's. Most uncomfortable seating going on long distance flights - made for midgets, not anybody over 5'6" tall.

In Buss First on this aircraft rows 2 and 5 Window seats are horrible,
ANY OTHER seat has more leg room. I'd rather be on the 767! Center seats
are clearly the best - forget the cool windows :)

At every arrival and departure - at this point- Boeing techs swarm all over the
place, No doubt a GREAT airplane, but dissapointed with the seating config.

Good luck to United, there are still many glitches with the 787, but that is to be expected with such a new airframe. It's hardly surprising that they are set to become the first US airline to offer international service with the type, since they are the only US airline that operates the type.

I THINK A LOT OF THE AIRLINES THAT USE THE 777 ARE NOW CHANGING TO THE 787 EVEN IF STILL SOME GLITCHES
