What I Would Like To See Is A Full Double Decker 747 To Beat Out The A-380

I Would Trust Flying On The Boeing More Than The Airbus

You know, what I'll never understand is why they always build the stretch 2nd. They know it will happen. Why not just go ahead and build it 1st.

probably better to start small and then examine whether or not there is a need to modify buddy

Well, I can agree with that but have you ever noticed that they ain't built a one that they ain't stretched and/or reengined even, and in a lot of cases they announced it before the original was launched.

true but like I said it's probably cheaper and makes more sense in their opinion to first offer the base model then once it starts doing well offer upgraded versions...plus after a few years of the fleet being in service they can then study the data and usage habits of the operators to make it more economical to operate.

I am a Boeing fan but also a practical observer. Take a look at the 380 on landing or takeoff and it is obvious that Airbus built the wing for much further expansion. In fact, when I first saw it land at YYZ I was immediately reminded of the 747-SP! Open to comment

Why was this size never considered initially during the design phase? Was it because the composites weren't yet effective for the size or was the 787 just looking to displace equivalent A-321 and up orders?
What will be interesting to follow is whether the 787-10 will indeed shrink the business case for the 777-8 and the entire 777-X line.

Looking at the 380, there is so much room to stretch on it's existing wing I would be surprised in the 747 could keep pace vis a vis expansion. Don't get me wrong, not a Airbus fanatic and truey appreciate Boeing technology however if you look at the 380 fro the right angel , , , , it almost looks like a 747SP!

This machine needs another engine or another device to defy gravity. Discuss!

Depending on the rollout and delivery time, you could be very correct as far behind as they are on the original orders for the 787 itself. I really don't think it will affect the 777 line although that is one thing I'm sure they'll consider before doing either one. It will be interesting.

That would be a great development, it would greatly improve the looks of this ugly bird and would be profitable and proportionate. The current aircraft looks like a squashed airplane it just does not look right to my eye but that is a female view.........!!

Sorry to disagree Jennifer, but the -8 itself is a damned good looking bird. In my humble "male" view. :-)

I look at proportions, the engines are huge making the body of the aircraft look squashed. Stretching it a little might improve it vastly.

Mind you, it took me 20 years to get to like the B747 until that was 'stretched'!

you didn't like the 747? What? the 747 is one of the best looking aircraft ever built..lol..the one plane I just don'r like is the P180 but different strokes for different folks.

I would have to see one in person in order to agree or disagree
