At the Farnborough Air Show Tuesday, Airbus sales chief John Leahy, along with Airbus CEO Fabrice Bregier, toured the Qatar Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner that is flying this week. (seattletimes.nwsource.com) More...
If that's all Leahy has to say then pity the poor man. Airbus has nothing like the 787, must have had him freaking out, the A350 won't fly for years while Boeing get hundreds of more orders. Suck it up John its not your time, The 787 rules.
Not sure if responding light-heartedly or otherwise. Either way, the man should at least exhibit good sportsmanship (even though Boeing is blowing them out of the water)
Whats the matter, Mr. Leahy?? Doesnt Airbus make anything good for you to peddle?? LOL! I wonder how long it will be till "austerity measures" in the EU force Airbus to stand on its own two feet?? Good luck Airbus! Youre going to need it!
Having being an engineering-management man most of my life and later a lawyer ,I will compare his utterances to the pleadings of a defense lawyer in a criminal trial which ends in CONVICTION of the accused ! ... oops ... Hey Airbus guys , no offence meant !
SOUNDS LIKE LEAHY MIGHT HAVE "I" PROBLEMS, REFERING TO "MY " AIRPLANE. I DOUBT THAT HE OWNS ONE. DOESN'T HE HAVEV " OUR " IN HIS VOCBULARY? BTW, COMPETITION IS GOOD. IT MAKES EVERYONE BETTER
Regrettably you are the underdog; the A320 killed the B757, the A330 finished off the B767 and the A380 well and truly has dealt to the B744.
But then again, you did also kill your own civil aviation industry by McDonnell Douglas and Lockheed failing to adapt and ending up gone.
You should have pride in much of what you do, but must also realise that it was other countries that developed technologies you now take for granted, e.g. jet propulsion, FBW, autoland, etc....
You should also be looking both north and south - Canadair and Embraer are also making giant strides and have a considerable stake in your domestic fleets.
There are highs and lows in this industry. One day Boeing is on top, the next airbus.
Regrettably, you are misinformed. The A320 did not kill the 757, nor did the A321. Neither can replicate the missions on the high end (i.e. TATL) that the 757 can do. Yep, the A330 finished off the 767 to the point that customers are still ordering 767's. ANA? JAL? FedEx? UPS? Any of those ring a bell? The A380 has dealt barely anything to the 747. By your logic, airlines would be replacing 1:1 747's with A380's, which they are not doing.
When the A380 came out all Boeing did was criticise - it was too big, nobody wanted it, taxiways aren't strong enough, our B747 is better, it is overweight/underperforming, etc. Hardly new in the tit for tat world.
I'm sure that when A350 is delivered it will not be anywhere near as late, under performing, and disappointing as the wetdreamliner!! Boeing are losing billions on it and won't make any money from it in years. Hardly something for the Americans to be proud of.
I agree but boeing have never been complementary to airbus and very hostile towards the fantastic a380, it's very much tit for tat. Be interesting when airbus start making planes Alabama!!
No need to argue the finer points here as it could be batted back and forth for a good while. That said, Boeing's criticism could not be unexpected from a competitor, but some has proved true to a point; The 380 could not just take off and go to an airport. Because of it's size, modifications had to be made and an airport here in the U.S. must be approved by the FAA to handle them. The 747 has been queen of the skies since the late 60's; what would you expect them to say. While there have been some 380's sold, AB revised it's sales estimates severely downward for the next year or 2. Not totally related to the 747 but still yet, it peaked in a hurry. Regarding your other comment below. The A320 didn't kill the 757 and the 330 didn't kill the 767. The new 737 variants and the 777 took their toll on those 2. As far as the 380 and 747, the jury is still out
Sorry folks, but I can't stand the French these days. In fact, I'm through with French wine, French Toast, French Fries.....and I'll never engage in a ménage a trois ever again. I'm going with Boeing!
on that account, me as a Belgian will say something which I am proud of... FRENCH FRIES are NOT, repeat "NOT" FRENCH.... they are bloody Belgian ! But the french gave it their name and unfortunately it became world famous under that name. But originally, it's Belgian. So... had to get that off my chest. Carry on :-)
Sore loser! With all the austerity measures coming up in the EU the day will come when they will have to stand on their own two feet and then we will see how they fare. Can't hardly wait!
It's the French. Nothing else needs to be said. They have been playing catch up on the world stage since the 1700's. Ask them who ran the NAZI's out of their country just a generation or two ago.
