DOT Warns Airlines and Agents About Advertising “Free” Flights

Submitted
Delta Airlines is the latest culprit of this, when they offered free flights for Game # 3 of the NHL, NY Rangers and NJ Devils ... Wow a whole 17 minute flight (www.travelpulse.com) More...

Q: In what way was Delta a "culprit" on its LGA-EWR flight offer? Ans: IN NO WAY. "FREE" was "FREE".

Delta did not violate this with the Rangers flight because it was 100% free.

It is only in America where an advertised ticket for $199. is $404. at the cashier. Every other country sells the ticket for $404, and that is what you give the nice lady at the window. False and misleading advertising is a practiced art in the USA, and the politicians are paid to look the other way. President Obama, why is only the DOT sending out warnings? When will the attorney general file some cases?

No such thing as a "free lunch." With everything a cost is associated with that particular good or service. But of course, the gov't wants in on business and imposes high taxes only to slow economic growth. Anyways, as I digress only a foolish person would think something is "free." No need to include that in advertising, fees and taxes should be expected.

The word free is more often used in a lie that any other word... I think they got the idea from obama's FREE Health Care...

A variation the theme, that is false or misleading information. Haven't you tried to book a flight at a SPECIAL rate of XX dollars and when you click to purchase it a warning comes up saying that sorry, the last seat at that price was just sold so you have to start all over again and another rate increase might be waiting for you. Oh, how a hate that!!!.

In the 2 articles, I happened upon, it stated, "Taxes for flights (It was a round trip) will be paid by those, holding tickets to the NHL game" .. and you could not even go unless you already had game tickets
