Tornados In Dallas Area Wreak Havoc, Damage Widespread, Airplanes Damaged At DFW Caused Cancellations
Strong storms and tornados erupted in the Dallas area resulting in widespread damage, some severe in localized areas and over 110 airplanes at DFW airport were also damaged causing flight cancellations and extensive delays.
I HOPE THAT ALL IS NORMAL NOW...I HAD A AUNT THAT WAS GOING THRU DFW. GOING TO ATL. THEN FINAL CVG.. HAVE NOT HEARD NOTHING.. HOW MENNY WHERE INJ. IN THAT MESS...IF YOU CAN ANS..
FYI: I had a friend on facebook that lives over in Plano, that sent a couple of pictures. I dunno if they took the them over there or more over to DFW but there was defintely some in the area.
I was monitoring LiveATC during the tornado spottings and passing, and let me tell you, it was an ordeal for ATC, pilots and the airlines operation. Inbound flights holding and diverted, outbound flights on the ground were ordered at first to hold and shut down, then to restart and go back to the ramp. Many pilots had to maneuver around other aircraft on the ground to taxii back to unknown ramp number, because the pilots were incommunicado with operations. Tower and ground ATC were very coordinated; and they were always looking out for the safety of the aircrafts.
I had the opportunity to tune in to ATC and watch FlightAware as it passed through. It was amazing seeing all that inbound traffic scatter like birds and take up holding patterns all over Texas and Oklahoma. One American Eagle took off from TUL and shorly after they did a figure 8 and headed back. DFW tower advised taxing aircraft to expect slippery conditions due to the amount of hail on the ramp. It was interesting to get to observe and listen to non-normal ops.
I watched the coverage on TV this afternoon. The tornadoes were south of DFW. There was a coverage where the tornado crossed over a large shipping company and the tornado was picking up and throwing trailers, some appeared to go up as high as 150 ft.
Was watching this as it unfolded on television at my towns local airport....Just seeing the damage that these storms caused and were causing really put things into perspective....Praying for all those affected by these storms and praying that everyone was and is able to find shelter as these storms continue.
DFW didnt get hit, They had alot of hail and are inspecting the aircraft for damage. ALot of cancele3d flights yesterday. And I am sure some this morning.
Last count was over 100 Aircraft with Hail damage, and over 400 flights cancelled. No Tornado hit at KDFW proper; damage and cancellations primarily caused by hail.
