B -1B Lancer celebrates 30 years of service
The B-1B Lancer – one of the most versatile, combat proven warplanes in U.S. history is 30 years old and going strong. The first one was delivered to the Air Force at Dyess Air Force Base in Texas in 1985 and over the years, the B-1 has changed with the times to meet the needs of the military. You don't hear much about this hot rod but it's mightily capable. I always thought of it as the muscle car of bombers, and all-around great plane.
That Lancer is bad with quad after burners. Go get 'em!!
Very amazing aircraft. It feels weird knowing its the only supersonic bomber in our air force to have swept wings. Now for the TU-160 Blackjack thats one heck of a plane but B-1B is a breath taker.
I suppose the efficiency vs. design cost, maintenance isn't enough to warrant more swing wings designs like the F14 Tomcat and F111 Aardvark. The moving wings look so interesting.
