Who is Jason Dowd ? Apparently, a modest individual who's quick thinking and action was able to get JetBlue # 191 (JFK-LAS) safely to the ground in Amarillo (KAMA), following the recent emergency. (www.huffingtonpost.com) More...
Yes, this pilot did a good job of course, and I don't envy him having to deal with his coworker going berserk, but I thought that successfully landing a properly-functioning aircraft was a fairly routine and expected part of the job.
Routine?Yes, when you're doing it in a simulator, or both of you are sitting in your chairs discussing the latest screw up by a so called celebrity. But when you are alone, and you boss is yelling his head off behind a door that he is trying to beat down, you then hear a lot of commotion behind the door as your passengers are now wrestling with you now soon to be former boss, all the while you are wondering what is going on, talking with center, and getting ready to land a jet by your self. I would hardly called that routine.
with the new worlds way of getting promoted with a min of so many hours curently passed by the Feds! he stuck in the right seat,no matter what!!! long live the good days of flying!!! Then again, times and technology has changed!!!!
Beyond the co-pilot great work, little has been said about a JetBlue captain who was on board the flight that got into the cockpit, changed the lock combination. So with two pilots in the cockpit, the flying the plane should have gone easily.
It is probably a good thing that him or somebody was on there. Best I remember, that Aircraft is not certified for one man operation. I guess in a pinch it can be handled but it's a heck of a lot nicer with 2 people.
I thought the same thing too. Not putting a damper on anyone's parade, but you're not a hero for doing your job. You probably could've left American out of the comment though...
There is bullshit everywhere, including Canada, but rational people don't label... People should respect other nations, that's why you should leave American out of it!!!
Will be interesting to see what the final outcome will be. It is not every day that an Airline Pilot looses it. I am really wonder what drove him to it... Will be interesting to see what comes from the FAA and NTSB on this one. I wish the captain well as he is obviously sick. I am hoping it was nothing that was self induced, and I really commend the CoPilot. He made a decision, stood by it, and got his passengers back on the ground. That was his job and he did it well.
Who cares what nationality he is. He did his job like he was suppose to. I am suprised that someone didn't kick the you know what out of the dead head. Flight attendants and now pilots. Maybe we should contact Amtrak from now on.
Doug: maybe I'm just feeling a little dense this earl on a Monday morning but would you mind explaining the part of your comment " I am suprised that someone didn't kick the you know what out of the dead head." Did I miss something?
Ive never know any Airline pilot to want to claim credit.for shaking exspereinces!!! This guy doesnt even want to be interviewed, perfers to stay discret! How ever i think Jet Blue, owes him a left seat position!!!! its sad a capt lost itttt!!! But man them guys are so under payed in todays world!!!! So muchh under payed!!!!!Then the feds cracking dwn on there hrs to gain promotions!!! off with the heads for any littel error!!!! bein a pilot now days is like doing ones jobunder a microscope such as a white mouse in a lab!!!Heart breaking what the pros go though, and barley make ittt!!!! A strike now days, may cost them a felonyy!after obama made it a felony to protest!!!! Tuff world for a pilot!!!!
As is often said, :Cool, level heards prevail". I'd say if anything promote Jason ASAP, no matter how modest he is. Lets not forget, there was an off duty NYPD, and pilot, on the plane, who also assisted.
All the mergers going onnnnn!!! its truly a nut house for any pilot!!!!Capt Les Abend, woke me up to curent pilots salarys!says he wished hed chose another profession!!!!In an issue of Flying magazine!you could tell he was dissapointed with the fall of the Avaition industry!!!So my heart felt for the Capt, just a littel when he lost itttttttt!!!!! It was sad, cause he will never fly againnnnnn!and itll hit em hard when he wakes uppppp!!!!
