Under a pending TSA rule update, you're about to begin paying an average of an additional $11.20 on each round trip ticket for the displeasure of having your bags and body searched prior to boarding your flight. This rate hike more than doubles the current $5.00 fee.

The TSA calls it the September 11th Security Fee, which translates to: "We hired all of these people in a knee-jerk reaction, and now we have to pay them somehow." If your itinerary includes multiple layovers of over four hours, they hit you again for another $5.60 for the additional enplanement. Yes, that's a word. The fee will go into effect on July 21st. The increase was agreed to last year in the 2013-2014 House & Senate budget agreement that helped finally resolve the government shutdown.
