Note about GPS Approaches

This information is current as of November 1, 2006 (still in effect as of 10/25/2010):
Columbus municipal airport has 4 published GPS procedures, however when the FAA created the approaches they placed them too close to Camp Atterbury's restricted airspace R-3401a. IFR procedures require that aircraft operating under IFR remain 3NM from the edge of R-3401a at all times when the area is active, which is almost constantly. Therefore, Indianapolis Approach will not issue any GPS approaches to any runways when the restricted area is active since either the approach or the missed approach for every GPS procedure intrudes into this 3NM buffer. The only remaining approach is the ILS RWY 23 (and circling when possible/necessary). Indy approach and BAK are working with the FAA to correct the problem. No time frame is mentioned for the fix.
