Image taken at Biggin Hill UK approx 1990 - looks like a Russian Bell Aerocobra - they were widely used before the P40 but not turbocharged so were not very good in combat above FL15 - most action in WWII occurred at twice that height. The aircraft though was popular with all those that flew it according to history books with Allison engine behind cockpit, a door for the pilot and tricycle gear - few aircraft has a nose wheel at that time.
