FlightAware August 2009 General Aviation Report HOUSTON - According to FlightAware's proprietary flight tracking database, general aviation (GA) flight activity has decreased by 2.8% in August 2009 compared to July 2009, and has decreased by 6.0% in August 2009 compared to August 2008. The biggest change in activity was led by charter operators with a -14.9% decrease in activity during August 2009 compared to July 2009. The airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of August 2009 was Wichita Mid-Continent in Wichita, KS with a gain of 11.9%, contrasted by the airport with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was Destin-Fort Walton Beach in Destin, FL with a loss of 32.6%. Year over year, the airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for August 2009 was Nantucket Memorial in Nantucket, MA with an increase of 17.0%, but the biggest drop in GA traffic was found at Centennial in Denver, CO with a decrease of 25.2%. General aviation single engine and multi-engine piston activity decreased by 5.0% in August 2009 compared to July 2009, turboprop activity decreased by 2.8% in August compared to July, and jet activity increased by 1.0% in August compared to July. The aircraft type with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of August was the Cessna Citation CJ3 with a gain of 10.2%, contrasted by the aircraft type with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was the Cirrus SR-20 with a loss of 14.5%. Year over year, the aircraft type with the largest significant gain in traffic for August was the Cessna 400 with an increase of 38.4%, but the biggest drop in traffic was found with the IAI 1124 Westwind with a decrease of 35.8%.
