FlightAware May 2010 General Aviation Report
HOUSTON - According to FlightAware's proprietary flight tracking database, general aviation (GA) flight activity has increased by 2.1% in May 2010 compared to April 2010, and has increased by 3.3% in May 2010 compared to May 2009. The biggest change in activity was led by charter operators with a 42.4% increase in activity during May 2010 compared to April 2010.
The airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of May 2010 was Chicago Executive in Chicago/Prospect Heights/Wheeling, IL with a gain of 27.2%, contrasted by the airport with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was Palm Beach Intl in West Palm Beach, FL with a loss of 34.3%. Year over year, the airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for May 2010 was Nashville Intl in Nashville, TN with an increase of 25.1%, but the biggest drop in GA traffic was found at Boeing Field Intl in Seattle, WA with a decrease of 7.5%.
General aviation single engine and multi-engine piston activity increased by 3.7% in May 2010 compared to April 2010, turboprop activity increased by 1.3% in May compared to April, and jet activity increased by 1.0% in May compared to April. The aircraft type with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of May was the Cessna Citation III with a gain of 15.1%, contrasted by the aircraft type with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was the Aero Commander 500 with a loss of 9.4%. Year over year, the aircraft type with the largest significant gain in traffic for May was the Cessna Citation Mustang with an increase of 38.5%, but the biggest drop in traffic was found with the Socata TBM-700 with a decrease of 26.5%.
