Karl Lehenbauer, Chief Technology Officer
Lehenbauer is a founding employee of FlightAware and has served as Chief Technology Officer since 2005. He brings decades of experience at managing the development of large, real-time, mission critical applications. He is regarded as an Internet pioneer and was the founder of the first Internet Service Provider in the Southern United States, which he sold in the 1990s for $8M in cash. Previously, Lehenbauer served as an architect and developer for GE Aircraft Engines control and structural life in-flight management systems. Lehenbauer is the co-creator of the TclX programming language and is also a contributor to The Apache Project among other open source Internet projects and protocols that he has been contributing to since 1986. Lehenbauer is an avid philanthropist, cyclist, and lives with his wife and two daughters. He holds an FAA pilot certificate.
